Talk:Vars::Game

There is a plethora of different pages dedicated to variables - the :: (paamayim nekudotayim[[1]] family, the _Vars family and the Vars- family. At least some organization should be applied. Take a look at the Orphaned Pages. Some of them are auto generated, others might not be. There is a Vars::Index page that looks like a nice stub, but there is also a Vars_and_Commands_Tables that is also something like an index, but lists entirely different pages. --Swooboo (talk) 13:29, 19 December 2014 (EST)

Well, long time ago some attempts were made to write some variable documentation, but that's very tedious. Later arand provided some amazing scripts to generate the vars tables on the wiki directly from the sources. These Vars_and_Commands_Tables are the ones linked on the main page, but they have not been updated for a while, though. But the automated documentation is definitely the way to go. Btw. your external link is broken, no clue what it is good for.--Bonifarz (talk) 10:47, 19 December 2014 (EST)
So then all the irrelevant ones should be deleted, no? For someone who is trying to make sense of variables, using the search brings too many irrelevant results. I would also like to un-orphan all the pages, so useless orphans will be killed. I would also like the auto generated pages not dead end, but that's another story. Maybe we should have a bot for the wiki like Wikipedia. --Swooboo (talk) 13:29, 19 December 2014 (EST)
Right. Maybe we can categorize such unused pages, such that it will be easier for an admin to remove them later. That "auto generated" vars page was probably just a sandbox to test the script.--Bonifarz (talk) 07:55, 20 December 2014 (EST)
Good idea! How do you think is best to mark the pages? --Swooboo (talk) 08:28, 20 December 2014 (EST)
I have an idea - maybe we could use Categories for this? --Swooboo (talk) 17:18, 21 December 2014 (EST)
That's what i meant, but maybe its simpler to just ask ;) --Bonifarz (talk) 16:43, 22 December 2014 (EST)
