GUI/HUD Texture Editing?

I'm attempting to make an alternate look for some of RE's menus and HUD. Is there any way that I can stop the game auto-updating the textures folder so that I can paste in custom ones? Alternatively, if there's a way I can change textures without replacing the data folder, I would much appreciate it if somebody would tell me how.

Also for those who are interested, this is some stuff from the pack itself. (WIP)

You shouldn't be modifying the base RE files, use Custom Content instead.

If you have a textures directory in your RE user data directory, an icon.png in that directory will override the default icon.png

There is no need to replace any contents of the installation directory. You can put your mods in the user data instead, http://redeclipse.net/wiki/Game_Settings

E.g. anything you put in a textures folder there will be loaded instead of its counterpart in data/textures.

If you want to publish your mods, keep in mind that there is a trademark policy, http://redeclipse.net/wiki/Trademark_Policy
E.g. it is perfectly fine to share your mods with the community, but publishing a package named "Red Eclipse: Arcane edition" could be problematic.

Don't worry too much about that. Something like "Arcane Skin for Red Eclipse" should be fine.
And if you come up with art that fits the game's theme, it might eventually get included.
