The size of the spacing is measured in terms of the width or height of the currently active gui font. Okay, so a vertical spacing of 1 is equivalent to one text line. But the text width unit for horizontal spacings is less clear (unless it's a mono font).
I'd like to understand the idea of this. The trivial thing you may expect is to see the same measure for both directions (e.g. the font's height).
It can get tedious to compare the units for horizontal (and vertical) struts, text wraps and scaling factors for gui bars and images.
