Cannot connect to the official server on 1.5.3

So I tried joining the Official Server and what happened was: a few seconds I can 'play' the game (ie press e to join it, start shooting), then my screen freezes for half a minute and I auto disconnect back to the menu screen. The disconnection message is just 'normal'. I can join The Snisp: Weird Mode server just fine which is also 1.5.3 now, as well as 1.5.2 servers and an offline game. What should I do/what info can I provide?

Please tell us your system specs (OS/CPU/GPU) and you could try using /verbose 6 then connecting to the official server. this *might* put something useful in log.txt in your home dir.
